The Nene Way is a long distance route following the path of the River Nene, as it meanders through the quiet Northamptonshire countryside. The Nene flows east and north through the county passing Thrapston, Oundle and Fotheringhay before reaching the border near Wansford.
This varied route leads you in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots and poet H.E. Bates, through bluebell woods, past havens for wildlife and into charming stone villages where you can rest to enjoy local produce in traditional English pubs and award-winning bistros. Accommodation along the route ranges from self-catering mill barns to luxurious hotels and bed and breakfasts.
The route is described in three sections, the southern section starting from the source of the River Nene at Badby in the south of the county, leading you north along the central section through Northampton, ending with the northern section, which takes you to the village of Wansford on the Northamptonshire - Lincolnshire border.
